Free Funding - the governments shout
The Victorian Training Guarantee
Under changes to the Victorian TAFE and training system and the introduction of the Victorian Training Guarantee, there are now an unlimited number of government-subsidised training places available for people who meet the eligibility criteria. A government subsidised training place is one where the tuition fees you are charged by a training provider are regulated by the government. This means the fees are often much lower than you would otherwise pay.
Am I eligible for a government-subsidised training place?
You are eligible for a government-subsidised training place if you are:
● An Australian citizen; or a holder of a permanent visa; or a holder of a Special Category Visa (sub-class 444); or an East Timorese asylum seeker; or a holder of a Temporary Protection Visa.
and any of the following:
● under 20 years old;
● between 20-24 and enrolling in a qualification higher than the highest qualification you already hold – or are in a Foundation level course. (If you are not studying at a higher level you may still be able to gain a government subsidised training place in 2010 but places may be limited);
● enrolling in a Diploma or Advanced Diploma and you do not already hold a qualification at an equivalent or higher level;
● a retrenched worker and enrolling in a qualification at a higher level that you already hold or a Foundation level course. You need certain documentation from your employment services/job network provider and you must have been retrenched since 1 January 2009. If you are not studying at a higher level you may still be able to gain a government subsidised training place in 2010, but places may be limited.
What if I am 25 or over and not enrolling in a Diploma or Advanced Diploma?
During 2010, you may still be able to access a government subsidised training place, but places are not guaranteed and are limited. However, there are further changes to the eligibility for a government subsidised training being introduced in 2011 which will open up funding opportunities to people 25 or over.
What if I want to study and I don’t meet the eligibility criteria?
If you do not meet the eligibility criteria identified above, you can still study with us, but you will not be able to access a government subsidised tuition fee. In this case you would be charged a fee for service rate.
